Ministry ban diet pills

Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has decided to withdraw all diet pills containing anorexic sibutramine from the market Friday.
The appetite suppressant sibutramine is believed to cause serious side effects such as heart attacks and strokes, especially to patients with a history of cardiovascular disease.
Best known as the main ingredient in diet pills such as Reductil produced by Abbott Laboratories, sibutramine, an oral anorexiant, causes loss of appetite, food consumption and thus, weight loss in patients using them.
It has been withdrawn from the market in the United States, the UK, EU, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Mexico and India.
